General Motors is still selling better than its Detroit peers and even Toyota, according to the official figures for the first six months of the year – but can it keep up with the Japanese automaker's assault?
The latter has countless novelties, and it feels like they sent a tidal wave of introductions to North America in a bid to drown out the hype around the Big Detroit Three. Luckily for GM, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size light-duty pickup trucks are selling so well that they even outperformed the Ford F-150 as of late – though only when bundled together, and on a general note, the entire F-Series still reigns supreme.

Additionally, the Chevy crossovers are doing just fine – many of them are all-new or restyled, and soon enough, the big Tahoe and Suburban will also feature a significant refresh to make them even more enticing. On the other hand, the passenger car side of the business is certainly not what it used to be. There's only one sedan – the affordable ($25,100) 2024 Chevy Malibu.

Even the sports car family is set to lose a member – the sixth-generation Camaro will bow out in January 2024, and there's no direct successor in sight. Only the C8 Corvette will keep the banner up after that. So, it is no wonder that everyone is interested in playing nice with the C8 iteration of 'America's sports car.' Chevrolet, on its part, is further expanding the scope of the series beyond the $68,300 Corvette Stingray, $112,700 Corvette Z06, and the all-new $104,900 Corvette E-Ray with the upcoming ZR1 model that is already in development and testing, plus the rumored 1,000-hp hybrid Zora hypercar.

Naturally, many eyes are now on the Z06 as it strives to take over the mantle of a high-performance flagship from the Stingray all-rounder – from OEMs to owners that just want to have fun at the local quarter-mile dragstrip. But soon enough, as the winter approaches, Chevrolet and everyone else might switch their focus toward the all-wheel-drive Corvette E-Ray. Besides, why would anyone not want to do that when the E-Ray is slightly cheaper than the Z06, and although it has 655 hp instead of 670 hp, it might outperform it thanks to its instant electric torque and eAWD system?

The love is valid for the imaginative realm of digital car content creators, too, as it turns out. For example, AGXNT, a digital creator known as 'agxnt.cgi' on social media, has translated Sigala Designs' Corvette C8-RR Widebody build project onto the first-ever E-Ray – and hasn't left anything out of the equation, including the shark-on-attack aero treatment along with the massive rear wing that makes it look like a land-based fighter jet! Too bad it's just wishful thinking, at least at the moment, right?
