The Japanese automaker is on a roll just about everywhere around the world. In America, though, it feels like a tidal wave pushing down on its rivals – and the goal is clear: take out GM from atop the sales charts.
Of course, beating the largest Detroit automaker is no easy task. Thus, the carmaker from the Land of the Rising Sun is trying to overwhelm the market with lots and lots of new model introductions. It has just about everything brand new, from the Prius 'Hybrid Reborn' to an entire family of Nightshade models spanning from the Corolla Cross to the Highlander Hybrid and everything in between.
It also has a lot of upcoming novelties, from the little 2024 GR86 Trueno Edition for GR fans to the 2024 N400 all-new Tacoma mid-size pickup truck and the 2024 Land Cruiser off-road SUV. The latter has grabbed everyone's attention and dreams – it comes back after a three-year hiatus as an all-new presentation based on the TNGA-F platform, but this time, it's twinned with the J250-based Lexus GX 550 rather than the full-size J300 Land Cruiser and J310 Lexus LX.
That's not bad, even if Toyota still sells the old-school 2024 4Runner SUV – there's enough space for everyone. The company even attempts to offer something for both vintage and modern fans – the Land Cruiser 1958 and limited-run First Edition have round headlights like the first iterations, while the higher 'Land Cruiser' grade mirrors the rectangular styling of models from the 1980s and 1990s.
As such, with only a couple of trims and a limited series that will have collectible status, are we surprised that people believe there is a lot more room for additional Land Cruiser versions? Of course, it will be a while before Toyota starts churning them out – they first have to kick off sales of the 2024 model year sometime during the first quarter of next year before even considering new additions to the range.
But that does not impede the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. For example, Dimas Ramadhan, the virtual automotive artist behind the Digimods DESIGN channel on YouTube, has taken up the task of revealing the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser GR. Frankly, it's not hard to guess how the pixel master arranged for the creation of the sporty SUV – it probably had some AI software assistance along the way.
Plus, it's not difficult to understand his source of inspiration, either. Looking at the front, it's a 2024 Land Cruiser (Prado or 250 in some regions) but with a little more panache and additional aerodynamic elements. The profile is mostly unchanged, though, and when we arrive at the rear POV, all is unraveled – the quirky three-point exhaust system is lifted straight from the GR Corolla. Cool or not?
