The Evoque is Range Rover’s best-selling nameplate, make no mistake about that. Not only is it the brand’s cheapest and smallest utility vehicle, but the Evoque also happens to be one of the sexiest compact crossovers on the market.
Seven years of production later, the second generation entered the scene on an evolution of the original’s D8 platform. The Premium Transverse Architecture or PTA has been designed with electrification in mind, hence the mild-hybrid turbo and plug-in hybrid turbo options with four- and three-cylinder mills.

You only need to look at the U.S. sales figures from 2019 to understand how popular the Evoque is in this SUV-driven market. Of the 94,736 vehicles sold by Land Rover, the baby Range Rover sold 11,529 examples. However, the Land Rover Discovery Sport edged out ahead with 26,373 units last year.

This got JLR thinking about how to maximize the appeal of the Evoque, and the answer to that question is pretty obvious from the headline and photo gallery. Indeed, a long-wheelbase Evoque with three rows of seats for seven people is currently in the works, scheduled to go roll out as a 2022 model year.

Camouflaged from the roof to the rocker panels, the prototype in the photo gallery does look strange when you compare it to the regular-wheelbase Evoque with seating for five people. More or less inspired by compact three-row crossovers such as the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, the newcomer should also carry over the powertrain and transmission options from the 2020 and 2021 models.

Starting at $42,650 in the United States, the Evoque P250 AWD Automatic has 246 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque to offer. Over in Europe, the compact crossover starts at 31,725 pounds sterling or 38,100 euros for the D150 FWD Manual. The lowliest specification available offers 150 PS and 380 Nm and this engine is also available in the Discovery Sport and Jaguar E-Pace.
