Sedans are dead in America? Not so fast, as Cadillac won't give up on competing with BMW and Mercedes-AMG. The high-performance CT5-V Blackwing is shaping up to be an awesome performance sedan. However, we still want them to match the RS6 Avant.
The image of the hot, supercharged CTS wagon taking on the Germans is forever etched in our brains. And while you could say Cadillac just wanted to show off in front of the Germans, wagons used to be more a part of American car culture than anything else.
The last generation of the CTS didn't have a wagon version, and its replacement, the CT5, lacks that body style as well. The demand is way too small, as only about 2% of American car sales are wagons, and that's only because the Outback is taken into consideration. Pandering to the caprices of the Europeans is a bad idea too, as they're unlikely to be interested in this kind of import.
Nevertheless, car renderers will always have an interest in hot wagons, and TheSketchMonkey just completed work on this CT5-V Blackwing and had only nice things to say about Cadillac's design language.
His creation has some unique styling elements, like a small decklid over the trunk or the awkward pinch in the rear window. However, if Cadillac ends up making a 650 horsepower rival to the Audi RS6, we'll let anything slide.
The latest rumors say the Blackwing version of the CT5-V will pack a supercharged 6.2-liter V8, so not the new 4.2-liter twin-turbo that actually wears the Blackwing name. This will be hooked up to either a 10-speed automatic or the only six-speed manual in the class.
The hot sedan is expected to retail from about $85,000. Now, that's not cheap, but the RS6 we keep mentioning is about $30,000 more.
