With only a day to go before the Tokyo Motor Show opens its doors, Honda couldn't keep the new Jazz/Fit secreted away any longer. It's not a huge reveal by any measure, but still, one we were interested in from a design perspective.
Though the camouflaged prototype sightings, it was apparent that the new generation of the Jazz or Fit would become cuter. Its predecessor is all angular and Civic-like, but it seems that's not what the customers are looking for. So Honda borrowed some round headlight ideas from its vintage models.

The much larger, less geometric headlights have been paired with a blocked off, body-colored grille. This makes the car look as harmless as a puppy. Only the top-end crossover version, dubbed the Fit Crosstar, features a black grille with louvers, plus body cladding and some silver roof rails. Before you go calling it a fake, know that most small Japanese cars are available with AWD.

The general proportions are about the same as before, to the point where it might not even be an all-new chassis. It's worth pointing out that while in Europe or America, this is often referred to as a B-segment car or a subcompact, Japan sees it as a compact. The MPV-like bubble design pushed the engine right to the front, creating enough room for up to seven people. Yes, seven. And while American Fit models are unlikely to offer this seating arrangement, they undeniably have above-average space.

These photos were provided by the Japanese website Creative Trend and show four different trim levels, all featuring a powertrain called "e:HEV." No, it's not hepatitis, but a hybrid powertrain, consisting of dual motors and a 1.5-liter, which should be completely different from the current Fit/Jazz Hybrid - more electric range, no 7-speed DCT, etc.

There's no mention of any normal gasoline unit, which would explain the aero-only grille. The launch is scheduled for early 2020, and a couple more powertrains might be added later.
