The Audi Q7 is one of the oldest names in the luxury SUV segment, right up there with the BMW X5. But this second generation has been a little unlucky with its design, something which will be fixed by an upcoming mid-life facelift.
Right now, the spotlight shines so brightly onto the newer Q8 that almost all other Audi models go unnoticed. Together with the A4, the Q7 is among the ugly ducklings of the brand which pre-date the Marc Licht era of design. But a mid-life facelift aims to change that.

Our spies braved the cold Scandinavian weather and were rewarded with fresh spy images depicting the Q7 facelift. It's looking like a completely different vehicle, thanks to brand new headlights, taillights, revised bumpers and trim.

Of course, the Q7 is never going to look as sporty as the Q8. It has a taller roof, a boxier body, and optional 7-seat configuration. But we're more than happy with how the new taillights came out. Admittedly, these have the same wave pattern graphics as the last Audis.

Inside, we expect the Q7 to fall in line with the interiors of the A6 or A7. It should have double infotainment screens in brand new dashboard design, as well as a new steering wheel. All this is going to cost Audi lots of money to install, but this is one of its most profitable models.

We don't foresee any powertrain changes, and that's because Audi has just been forced to install the latest 3.0 TDI units because of Emissions regulations. That means 231 HP instead of 218 for the base model and 286 HP for the 50 TDI over the 272 HP of the one it replaces. Over in America, Audi should switch to the turbocharged 3.0 TFSI. The European -tron PHEV has just been dropped from the lineup, and this could later be replaced by a 2.0 TFSI system like the one in the VW Touareg PHEV.
