Relying on nothing more than the lithium-ion battery and two electric motors, the 2019 Subaru Crosstreak Hybris is much obliged to travel 17 miles. Add the 2.0-liter boxer engine to the menu, and you’re looking at an estimated range of 480 miles, a lot for a compact crossover with all-wheel drive.
Pricing for the first-ever PHEV from Subaru starts at $34,995 in the United States, plus $975 for destination and delivery. The most efficient Subaru on sale today has an MPGe rating of up to 90, which is once again impressive for a vehicle in this segment.

Subaru quotes speeds of up to 65 miles per hour when in EV Mode, and even though it uses an efficiency-minded version of the Lineartronic CVT, the Crosstrek Hybrid is a second quicker from zero to 60 mph than the ICE-only model. Despite the Toyota Prius Prime-sourced PHEV technology, Subaru didn’t forget to outfit the Crosstrek Hybrid with go-anywhere equipment such as X-Mode and Hill Descent Control.

With a ground clearance of 8.7 inches, 43.1 cubic feet of cargo space, and 1,000 pounds of towing capacity, Subaru engineered this fellow here to be both practical and competent off the beaten path. Like the WRX, the Crosstrek Hybrid uses Active Torque Vectoring to brake the inside wheel when cornering for improved handling.

Four colors are available for the exterior, and Lagoon Blue Pearl (pictured) is exclusive to the Crosstrek Hybrid. The blue headlight projector rings add to the character of the eco-friendly crossover, along with the Plug-In Hybrid badging on the fenders. The charge port door brings the point home once again, reading Plug-In.

As far as the cabin is concerned, Gray and Navy Blue is how the Crosstrek Hybrid likes to roll, 8.0-inch Starlink infotainment and all. Push-button start, automatic climate control, dual USB ports for the rear passengers, heated front seats, windshield wiper de-icer, and smartphone mirroring are all standard.

The most notable option costs $2,500 and bundles satellite navigation with voice commands, heated steering wheel, power moonroof, and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. The range-topping version of Starlink benefits from over-the-air updates for the TomTom-based satellite navigation.
