2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Nurburgring Near Crash Is a Failed BMW Overtake

The idea of chasing a 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS in a similar car while on the Nurburgring sounds like a dream. Then again, given how capable the Rennsport Neunelfer is, the kind of speeds allowed by the car can always see a driver making a mistake.

And we've brought along just such a chase, which involves a near-crash. The shenanigan took place while the two rear-engined toys were negotiating the Lauda Links - the driver of an E39 BMW 5 Series allows the first Porscha to pass, but moved into the path of the second when this was approaching.

As such, the aficionado behind the wheel of the second GT3 RS ended up on the grass, as deceleration alone wouldn't have been enough to avoid hitting the Bimmer.

And, as you'll get to see at the 4:17 point of the video below, the rear end of the Neunelfer stepped out. Fortunately, the driver swiftly persuaded the car to get back in line, thus avoiding what could've been a serious accident.

In fact, here's the Porsche driver explaining the situation: "Second to last lap of a "boring" day at the Nordschleife. So many closures, accidents & lot's of bad driving traffic. Not to speak of my own almost crash because of another driver who didn't look in his mirrors and pushes me onto the grass at Lauda Links. Again so close!"

Nevertheless, we have to mention that the BMW driver wasn't the only one at fault - the Porsche wielder made the mistake of assuming that the one behind the wheel of the 5er would let him pass after seeing how he allowed the first GT3 RS to overtake.

Then again, the Neunelfer driver also noticed the silver lining: "But nice to see another 991.2 GT3 RS being pushed hard. My Michelin Cup 2 N2 tires were at the very end after having done 60-70 laps with them, which is really not bad when driving hard on the Nordschleife,"
