Japanese carmaker Subaru has been selling on the American market for more than 4 decades now, and year after year its performance seems to be getting better. Even so, it's been a slow, tormenting rise, and only now the carmaker reported selling the ten millionth car in the country.
The vehicle that will go down in the carmaker's history books is a 2019 Impreza, and it was sold by Nate Wade Subaru, a dealership located in Salt Lake City, Utah that happens to be the oldest Subaru retailer in the U.S.

“It took us 41 years to achieve our first five million sales, and just over 10 years to achieve the next five million,” said in a statement Thomas J. Doll, Subaru of America CEO.

“Accomplishing this milestone reflects our commitment to providing customers with vehicles made to the highest standards of safety, reliability and dependability.”

Subaru is confident the next milestone in terms of sales will be achieved much quicker. With a lineup now comprising no less than eight different models, ranging from sedans to SUVs, the sales figures are likely to increase rapidly in the years ahead.

Back in 1986, when it first started doing business in America, Subaru entered the market with only one model, the 360 micro-car. In its first year, it managed to sell only 332 cars.

But things have evolved dramatically since then. Recently, the Japanese said that August 2019 was the 93rd consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases, and at the same time its best-ever sales month, with over 70,000 new cars delivered.

The carmaker even managed to get named the most trusted brand in 2019 among automakers following a study by vehicle valuation company Kelley Blue Book.

The eight models now available in the States are the Impreza, Legacy, Crosstrek, Forester, Outback, Ascent, BRZ and WRX. Of them, five are available as a 2020 model year.
