Mitsubishi’s ASX, sold in the USA as the Outlander Sport, is preparing to receive a new generation.
The prototype you can see in the photo gallery previews a 2018 model year vehicle, which is expected to be available starting late 2017. As you already know, the Mitsubishi ASX/Outlander Sport has been on the market for some time, and its size has made it slightly uncompetitive when put head to head with the other crossovers of the segment.

As you can observe, this heavily camouflaged example features the new styling identity introduced by Mitsubishi. It has different headlights, separate LED daytime running lights, a massive front bumper, and an enlarged front grille.

The ASX was one of the cars that still featured the “shark nose” that was launched on the Lancer X, which came to marketplace many years ago.

It is worth noting that Mitsubishi has recently facelifted the ASX to fit it with the “Dynamic Shield” front end. The latter refers to a significantly modified grille and bumper, along with a different hood, which places the triangle with the chopped peak further ahead of the headlights.

The prototype that is visible in the photo gallery comes with a different strategy, as it has a front end that is in agreement with the current design language of the Japanese brand, which could not have been applied successfully to the old car.

The shapes seen on the next Outlander Sport were previewed by a concept called eX, which was uncovered at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show.

The 2016 Pajero Sport also exhibited the same styling idea for the front grille. Evidently, there’s more to the next ASX and Outlander Sport than just the front end, but this was an important point because it has the possibility of influencing sales figures more than other traits.

The platform of the ASX is expected to get a major overhaul, and its engines will follow the same route. The new generation of this crossover could also feature the Evolution badge, as it might become the Lancer Evolution’s replacement.
