Mitsubishi Could Use the Evo Badge on The Next-Gen ASX Crossover

Wheels are spinning in Mitsubishi's backyard, especially after the company decided to kill the Lancer and its Evo derivative to focus on SUVs. And by the looks of it, that's exactly what they are doing.

The Lancer and the Lancer Evo are one step closer to becoming history, but Mitsubishi lives on to focus on producing better SUVs. So far, they've been rumored to plan on launching the new Pajero, a car that could feature a hybrid powertrain but won't lose the off-road qualities that made it famous.

As good as that may sound, there are a lot of Mitsu fans wondering what will happen to the Evo badge. Will it go down with the Lancer? Well, no, it won't, at least that's what AutoExpress claims.

According to their report, Mitsubishi bosses have stated that the Evo name could make a comeback on a hot ASX crossover shortly. But this shift will be made in steps.

Interviewed by the same source, Mitsubishi's UK boss Lance Bradley said the next generation ASX is on its way and should make a debut next year when it will come with four-wheel drive option available to customers. A hybrid version with two-wheel drive will follow at a later date, and Bradley thinks developing a performance variant from this point is not 'a huge jump'.

The official also added Mitsubishi 'can afford to take the risk.' However, right now they are 'not at a point where it’ll definitely happen, but we’ve got a lot of senior management talking about it.'

Well, at least we know for sure that future Mitsubishi SUVs will try to add a more premium overall feeling in an attempt to attract more customers.
