The Republic of the Philippines isn’t just a country that’s in the middle of making the transition to a service- and manufacturing-based economy. As a matter of fact, the Philippines is one of the most important markets for new cars in the world, a fact acknowledged by the peeps at Honda.
Compared to 2014, last year saw the Philippines buy 23 percent more vehicles. The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers and the Truck Manufacturers Association highlight that the most important segment is that of light commercial vehicles. As for automakers, Toyota leads the list, followed by Mitsubishi, Ford, Isuzu, and Honda. Thanks to the blooming economy and the introduction of new financing strategies, models in the upper segments are now hot stuff in the Philippines.
The newly-launched 2016 Honda Accord is a perfect case in point. If it looks similar to the Accord sedan sold in the United States, that should not come as a surprise to you. Even the 2.4 four-cylinder and 3.5 V6 engines mirror that of the American variant. Up front, the PH-spec Accord carries over the sporty, bold looks and the full LED headlights.
According to Honda Cars Philippines, the cabin of the Accord sedan greets the driver with a “high level of luxury and craftsmanship.” Right, and pigs fly. Jokes aside, the ninth-generation Accord is an excellent sedan, one that makes the Toyota Camry put its money where its mouth is. It’s far from being luxurious, though.
Now on sale at dealerships across the Philippines, the 2016 Honda Accord sedan holds a suggested retail price of PHP 1,788,000 for the 2.4 S Navi model with the 5-speed automatic and PHP 2,288,000 for the 3.5 SV Navi with the 6-speed automatic. Converted at current exchange rates, that translates to $38,480 and $49,265, respectively. By comparison, the cheapest Accord sedan retails for $22,205 in the United States, while the range-topping Touring with the V6 is $34,680.
