After three generations of commiting to a sliding glass top, Porsche’s 911 Targa literally tips its hat to the head of its family three, adopting a look inspired from the 1960s Targa. Upon testing the 2015 Targa, we though this melody couldn’t go any more retro. Apparently Fortunately, we were wrong.
The Targa 4S in the adjacent image stands as proof for that. This example of the car was gifted with a little detail that makes all the difference in the world, at least to a Zuffenhausen-trained eye.

The vehicle has left its wheels behind, borrowing a set from another classic-inspired contemporary 911, the 50th Anniversary Edition. The 911 50th Anniversary Edition’s rims are a nod to Porsche’s legendary Fuchs wheel design.

The rollers are finished in matte black with machine-polished center elements. While the latter make a nice match for the iconic roof bar, the dark side of the wheels is nicely assorted with the black canvas of the roof. Since we mentioned the top, we’ll remind you that the material is just a cover for the magnesium structure underneath.

We have to add this feat is even more special now that the 911 50th Anniversary has been sold out. By the way, this Targa will both enjoy its life and be enjoyed, since the car likes to hang out in Florida.

For those willing to take a short trip back to Porsche’s memory lane, we’ll mention the Fuchsfelge wheels’ story dates back to the 1960s. Porsche needed fitting wheels for its 911 and since cast-aluminum ones didn’t meet its engineering requirement, they turned to Otto Fuchs, who came up with the first series-produced forged aluminum wheels. Friends call these the windmill wheels.
