While casually browsing Porsche’s website earlier today, we noticed the 911 50th Anniversary edition had been pulled off the German and Austrian websites. The special model still appears on the websites of other European countries, as well as in other markets, such as the US.
We reached out to Porsche, asking them why the 50th Anniversary 911 was pulled off and they confirmed the model has been sold out worldwide. We’ll remind you that we are talking about a model limited to 1963 units, which made its debut at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show.
“The Anniversary model is sold out across the world. The German language websites are the first to update their data whenever this is necessary. In the near future, depending on the importance of the market, all the Porsche websites will perform this update,” Adrian Pascu, Porsche Brand Manager for Romania, told us.
Fret not, you can still find 50 Anniversary 911s at dealers. For instance, we did a tour of mobile.de and came across Chassis #1. As an interesting detail, the dealer isn’t a Porsche-exclusive seller. The ad says “New”, with the coupe having 50 km (miles) on its odometer.
Mind you, one shouldn’t mistake the 50th Anniversary Edition with the 50th Anniversary package. The latter, which is available for “normal” 911 models, includes the Sport Chrono package, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including navigation module, the telephone module, front and rear park assist and seat heating for the driver and front passenger.
Unlike the recently-launched Martini Edition, the 50th Anniversary edition comes with features you can’t order on any other 911. For instance, the center areas of the leather seats are finished in a fabric paying homage to Porsche’s 1960 design. These also happen to be the most comfortable 911 seats we’ve ever occupied.
