Porsche is almost ready to offer the facelifted 911 to the world and we couldn’t just sit and wait, so we’re brining you a spy video that shows two 911 prototypes in a glorious Boxer duet.
Zuffenhausen’s flat six soundtrack is enough music to our ears when coming from a single engine, but the duet makes us thankful for the existence of these superb six-cylinder mills. One of the singers (no pun intended) if a 911 Turbo.

Despite the fact that no major tech changes are expected for the Turbo when the revamp hits, the engineers are determined to extract every bit of performance available - they even crashed the 911 Turbo prototype during a Nurburgring run back in May.

Nonetheless, the 911 Turbo is expected to receive a major upgrade in 2017. Rumor has it Porsche is working on a hybridization plan, which will see the company transfer the petrol-electric knowledge gained with the 918 Spyder to the 911 and Panaera. To be more specific, the Germans are believed to be working on new range-topping versions of the two. With a little help from the electric motor friends, the two should climb to about 700 hp.

We’ll remind you Porsche is also working on a new family of turbocharged four-cylinder Boxers. As far as the 911 is concerned, two of these powerplants could land at its back. The first is a 2.0-liter unit delivering 286 hp (290 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, while the second is a 2.5-liter mill churning out 360 hp (365 PS) and 347 lb-ft (470 Nm) of torque.

At least one of these units will power the 911 and while they do come with their benefits, we’d like to enjoy our six-cylinder units while we can.
