New Porsche 911 GT3 RS Leaked via Scale Model with Turbocharged Engine Clues

Ladies and gentlemen drivers, we may be looking at the first image of the new 991-generation Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Nonetheless, before we start digging into the topic, we need a magnifying glass, since this is a scale model of the anticipated trackday hero.

The adjacent image casually showed up on Twitter and while we can’t yet verify the authenticity of the model, it does offer some pretty spicy clues about the GT3 RS.

We’ll start with the scale model’s front end, which is identical to what we see on the GT3 RS in Porsche’s current offer. The front apron seems to be taken straight from the GT3, including the massive splitter. To put things another way, there are no traces of the 911’s upcoming facelift here.

Moving to the profile view, we find massive air vents on the front wings, which flow onto the front wheel arches. However, it’s the rear wings that bring the more important news. Just like on the spied GT3 RS prototypes, the rear fenders hold massive air intakes, a feature Porsche has only used on the forced induction models, the Turbo and the GT2.

In fact, we’ll remind you that these rear air intakes have determined us to initially believe the spied prototypes were 991 911 GT2 test vehicles. Nevertheless, while the GT3 is indeed coming, the GT2’s fate still looks uncertain.

The rear wing air intakes should confirm a rumor indicating Porsche is moving to a turbocharged engine for the RS incarnation of the GT3. The rumor was fueled by the idea that the current 3.8-liter flat six block is already pushed to the limit with the 475 hp output of the GT3 and thus require some boost pressure to increase the muscle.

Still, it would be a bit odd to see the GT3 RS jump the turbo bandwagon, especially when Porsche works drivers praise the linear power delivery and instant response brought by the 911 GT3’s natural aspiration. If we look at the previous 997 generation of the 911, we find a swansong incarnation of the GT3 RS that had its displacement increased from 3.8 to 4 liters. The path used for the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 could be a solution for the 991 GT3.

Until we get our hands on more information on what’s hiding at the back of the upcoming GT3 RS, we’ll take a moment to mention that massive rear wing. The styling here falls perfectly in line with what we’d expect from the GT3 RS badge.

Moreover, the rear apron seems to have the lower aerodynamic element of the GT3 expanded onto the rear of the wheelarchs.

Speaking of wheels, a peek through those slim spokes reveals that we are not dealing with ceramic brakes, which would’ve brought Yellow calipers. Then again, the PCCB (Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes) are an option on the GT3.

Inside the 911 GT3 RS scale model, the bucket seats and the rollcage let you know this creature means business. The Nurburgring would better be prepared.
