Japanese automaker Mazda opened a new chapter in car design a few years ago when it introduced the Mazda6 sedan. It was not only beautiful to look at, but also came with something we got to know as Skyactiv technology.
That tech and design trickled down through the model range, to the CX-5 compact SUV, followed by the Mazda3 compact family and finally the Mazda2. It was first introduced in Japan back in 2014 but required a few more months before being ready for the Europeans and Americans.

From the moment you lay eyes on it, you realize that this is an entirely different car from the previous generation of the Mazda2. The overall length has been increased from 3,900mm (153.5 inches) to 4,060mm (159.8 inches), making this one of the largest cars in its class. This gave designers more room to play with, as they sought ways to install larger headlights and more muscular shoulder lines.

We still think that the 2015 Mazda2's grille looks just like the beak of red bird from Angry Birds. However, the similarity is less apparent in this pearlescent white color that our test car came equipped with.

Many of the features that can be optioned on the Mazda2 are unique in the supermini segment. For example, high-end Sport models get faux carbon fiber inserts for the headlights. A head-up display makes you feel like a fighter pilot when behind the wheel, being a feature that only the MINI Cooper shares.

The driving experience can be compared to the latest generation of MINIs too. The steering feels a bit numb, but still much more responsive than on French cars, while the short-shift gearbox is a lot of fun to use.

While the design of the interior is very impressive, the overall feel is not as impressive as you are being led to believe by our photos. For example, the dashboard has a nice texture, but it's made with hard plastics.

From the Audi-like air vents to the MZD Connect 7-inch touchscreen, there are lots of features that demand your attention. However, our favorite was the red seat and door trim that came with our Mazda2 Hazumi model. If you'd like to see more, check out the Full HD photo gallery of our 2015 Mazda2 review.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
