Until the Mustang EcoBoost-powered, all-wheel drive 2016 Focus RS will bow down in January at the Detroit Auto Show, the Blue Oval automaker’s hottest hatch comes in form of the facelifted Focus ST. It’s certainly not as hell-bent for leather as its RS sibling, but the ST is still a very hot hatchback.
Available only as a five-door hatchback or a wagon, with either turbo petrol or diesel power, the 2015 Ford Focus ST borrows its main styling cues from the heavily-updated Focus like the one we reviewed only recently, but the added go-faster visuals stand true to the automaker’s Sports Technologies label. Before we go any further, let’s go through the pricing.
In a previous story we told you about UK pricing, but now’s time to disclose how much the updated ST will set you back in euros. Four variations are available at the present moment and they cost as follows: €32,875 for the ST 5-door 2.0 Ecoboost 250 hp, € 33,325 for the 2.0 TDCi 185 hp, €33,825 for the Sportbreak ST 2.0 Ecoboost 250 hp, as well as €34,275 for the Sportbreak ST 2.0 TDCi 185 hp.
If you need more than the 345 Nm (270 lb-ft) of torque the 2-liter EcoBoost turbocharged petrol offers as standard, then you may want to wait for Ford Racing to finish developing their ECU retune package for the ST, which hikes output up by 122 Nm (90 lb-ft) according to pre-production testing. Whatever exterior color or stitching you prefer, we urge you not to go for the optional 19-inch wheels.
The standard set of 18-inch alloys is better if you plan to use the Focus ST on a daily basis because the rubber’s sidewall is a little more giving. A six-speed stick shift is mated as standard to all 2015 Ford Focus ST models, with start&stop thrown in only on the EcoBoost. What about the big ones?
Well, all is right in Sports Technologies land. 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) comes in just 6.5 seconds and the 5-door EcoBoost will top at an honorable 248 km/h (154 mph). If fuel economy is what you’re after, the 2.0 TDCi in ST-grade guise will return some 4.2 l per 100 km (67.3 UK mpg or 56 US mpg).
