Looking back at the Ford Mondeo's almost 21-year-old existence, we find hard to find out a single detail that captured the imagination of petrolheads like us. Maybe the James Bond: Casion Royale product placement of the third generation Mondeo was a highlight, but it still wasn't enough hike the wow factor up a notch. But we're glad to inform you that the fourth generation Mondeo is unlike its predecessors.
Just look at the Ruby Red five-door liftback sedan example above and how happy it is to attack that corner. Based on the 2013 model year US-only Ford Fusion, the 2015 Mondeo is fitted with an integral link rear suspension, a layout which was partly carried over by the 2015 Ford Mustang. Vector in a good-handling Ford CD4 platform and advanced electronic driver aids and you get a surprisingly sporty sedan. In 180 hp 2.0 TDCi turbo diesel format, the Mondeo is also a rather economical machine.

If you're in your 30s and you are in the market for something more spacious than a liftback sedan, then we recommend to go for the 2015 Ford Mondeo wagon, which boast with only 25 liters of boot space over the 525 liters of the sedan. Nevertheless, its boxy rear quarters will swallow up the family's luggage and even the dog with a lot of ease. Did we forgot to mention that all three rear occupants enjoy almost E-segment levels of leg and headroom? Or heated seats? Or segment-first inflatable rear seat belts?

If you take a look in our 2015 Ford Mondeo review's photo gallery, you'll see that the bigger estate isn't just practical, but it's also really handsome. Then there's the optional equipment that really makes a difference if you specify it. The adaptive full-LED headlight technology is truly impressive for a car in this segment, especially in bad weather. A detail that also impresses comes in the form of Audi A8-inspired sequential LED turn indicators. To boot, one light emitting diode will swivel automatically according to various variables, concentrating its beam of light on road signs without blinding other vehicles near you.

But the electronic and digital wizardry doesn't end here. Once you step inside the 2015 Ford Mondeo, you're met by an apparently familiar dashboard design, but the technology is not so familiar. Infotainment duties are handled by the Ford SYNC Gen II system (SYNC Gen III arrives in summer 2015), while the half-analogue half-digital instrument cluster is a joy from the driver's point of view. There is some funny looking plastic here and there, but thankfully, it's a high-quality rubbery plastic. Oh, and if you're too tired to drive, high-spec Mondeos will advise you to rest a little or drink an espresso.

The 2015 Ford Mondeo is pretty, intelligent, a bit of an athlete on engaging twisty roads in the mountains, comfy and frugal considering its size in TDCi, EcoBoost or Hybrid flavor. It may have arrived 2 and a bit years too late in Europe, but the wait was worth it. Look over the brand snobbery associated with vehicles wearing Ford badges and do take one for a test-drive to find out for yourself.
