Describing a 2004 car as old is pretty zoomer of me at first glance, but I don’t really agree with that point of view. You see, the Lincoln Town Car is old-school American luxury in my mind because of the Panther platform, introduced by Ford in the late 1970s with the LTD and Mercury Marquis.
It boggles my mind how the Blue Oval kept the Panther going for 33 years even though it was close to being discontinued in the 1980s. I’m similarly surprised by the Lincoln lineup for the 2021 model year because the MKZ and Continental have both been discontinued in favor of sport utility vehicles. In other words, the Town Car marks the end of an era for the American luxury brand, and it doesn’t get more luxurious than the Ultimate trim level.

Listed on Cars & Bids with approximately 7,900 miles (12,714 kilometers) on the clock, the Town Car in the photo gallery used to cost $47,845 when it was new. Adjusted for inflation, that works out to $65,975 in today’s money. Currently going for $10,000 after 11 bids, the plushed-up sedan with Cashmere Tri-Coat paintwork and a partial Landau roof comes with an AutoCheck history report that lists no accidents or mileage discrepancies.

A one-owner car until the current seller acquired it, the Town Car is also fitted with a power moonroof, a trunk-mounted CD changer, heated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Like every 2004 model produced, the engine compartment is where you’ll find the venerable 4.6-liter Modular V8 with a SOHC valvetrain, mated to a good ol' automatic tranny.

This mill cranks out in the ballpark of 239 horsepower and 287 pound-feet (389 Nm) of torque, which is downright disappointing in comparison to the force-fed Lincolns of today. Be that as it may, we should remember that Lincoln Town Cars weren’t designed to go anywhere fast. Smoothness is the name of the game here because the Town Car is all about enjoying the ride.

Last serviced in June 2020, when the car has also passed an emissions inspection, chassis number 1LNHM83W64Y606976 does exhibit a little wear and tear. In no particular order, flaws include some driveline rust, stained carpets, paint imperfections, and a scratched driver-side rear wheel.
