The Tenth Anniversary Trans Am (TATA) was an overnight hit. The car sold like hotcakes despite the hefty price. It carried a $10,620 price tag, becoming the first model in the Firebird series that surpassed the $10K threshold.
However, the exclusive equipment on the anniversary model was incredibly intriguing, making customers want (and eventually buy) the TATA.

Pontiac equipped the car with mirrored T-Tops, leather seats, and every option available in the Trans Am lineup. It was painted in two-tone charcoal and came with a huge bird on the hood to set it apart from the rest of the crowd.

Customers could only choose the engine, as everything else was standard. The W72 400 engine, available with a manual transmission, was ordered by 1,817 customers, while the L80 403, paired with an automatic unit, made its way to 5,683 cars.

The TATA in these photos is a 99% original example still fitted with a working engine. The owner says the car sports a 401 mated to an automatic transmission, but I believe it's a typo, and their Trans Am is powered by a 403. However, they claim the engine was leaking and was considered underpowered, so a previous owner "had a mid cam installed, and headers, and resealed the block." You'll have to inspect the engine in person to figure out what's hiding under the hood, but the owner promises the V8 has good power and sounds good "but not too loud."

Otherwise, everything (except for the unfortunate LED side marker lights and the LED headlights) is impressive. The interior looks spectacular, still flexing the mirrored T-Tops and the leather seats in impressive shape. eBay seller thetexastreasurehunter doesn't mention whether the Trans Am has ever been restored, but considering they claim it's a car you have to "invest in," it's probably safe to assume it hasn't.

The Trans Am has many original goodies, including the wheels and the owner's manual. The factory air conditioning is still in the car, blowing ice cold like on day one. The paint is also original, and it doesn't look like it requires major fixes. The odometer indicates 99K miles (159K km), and they are all original.

The Internet will decide the selling price, as the owner listed the car for auction. The battle is fierce, with close to 50 bids received in the last few days. The top offer is $21,700, but the reserve is still in place, so someone must send a bigger offer to unlock it. Meanwhile, if you want to check all the claims above in person, you'll have to travel to San Antonio, Texas. Theoretically, you should be able to drive the car home on its wheels, considering its almost tip-top shape.
