Fords from the 1930s are highly popular with hot rodders, and even pickups can be modified this way on a tight budget. Offered at no reserve on Bring a Trailer by Genau Auto Werks, this build is rocking a 5.7-liter Chevrolet small-block V8 crate engine instead of the good ol’ Flathead V8.
Now showing 70 miles (113 kilometers) of which 60 were added by the current owner, chassis number 18801629 “has torque and power for days” according to him. The all-steel body is complemented by a TCI Engineering frame with drop-axle front suspension and coilovers for the four-link rear axle. Naturally, the undercarriage doesn’t show a single speck of corrosion.
Shifting comes courtesy of a five-speed manual transmission with a curved shifter and a cue ball-style knob. Equipped with American Racing 15- and 16-inch wheels wrapped in Goodyear Assurance tires, the go-faster pickup relies on discs and drums for stopping power. The braking system was serviced last year in September when fluid changes were also performed.
A four-barrel carburetor feeds the engine with air and fuel while an electric fan and aluminum radiator keep things cool. Tubular headers and two exhaust outlets with a polished finish help the 350 motor breathe out.
Backed up by a clean California title, this red-hot pickup boasts a fixed-place tailgate and a bed with oak planks secured with polished stainless-steel runners. Finished in red for the upper half and black for the lower half of the body, the 1934 Ford exhibits a small crack on the left-front fender.
Open the driver’s door, and you’re presented with black vinyl on the seats, a matching headliner, and door panels appointed in the same fashion. Black carpeting, a leather-rimmed steering wheel that captures your attention with the polished spokes, and lap belts are featured. The finishing touch comes in the form of VDO instrumentation that includes a 7,000-rpm tachometer.
