Ladies and gentlemen drag racers, allow us to introduce the little Honda CRX / Del Sol that could. Coming all the way from Australia this is the kind of deceiving-appearance machine that will rip a muscle car's V8 out with its 8-second quarter mile runs.
We're talking about a 1993 Honda that was taken back to the drawing board by LS Autoworks. The engine compartment is occupied by a Honda 1.8-liter mill that can rev to 11,000 rpm and works with a Precision 76mm turbo able to deliver a meaty 53 psi. The list of other engine mods includes a Hypertune intake plenum, a custom water intercooler, a MoTeC M800 ECU, and others.

As for the gearbox, we're dealing with a Honda transmission featuring PPG gears, while Mark Williams supplied the driveshaft pieces.

As a result of all the custom work, this diminutive racer now allows its driver to play with north of 1,000 hp. Given the fact that the car tips the scales at 2,400 lbs (make that 1,085 kg, you metric system aficionados), the performance mentioned above shouldn't come as too much of a surprise.

As it also happens in America, gearheads from Down Under aren't exactly ready to throw their respect at front-wheel-drive contraptions such as the one we have here. Nevertheless, once this Honda gets past the burnout phase and leaves the Christmas Tree behind, the situation changes.

And speaking of the machine's FWD state, the apparent track difference dictated by the massive tire width between the two axles somehow makes us think of a three-wheeler. But this is just us getting the giggles from such an extreme Honda.

Sure, at the end of the day, a vee-eight will be a vee-eight, while this will remain a Honda that spent too much time at the gym. But we can't take away the contraption's drag strip merits.
