With the Dodge Viper using its old school "no replacement for displacement" recipe, the supercar doesn't get the same level of aftermarket attention enjoyed by muscle cars such as the 2016 Camaro SS or the Dodge Challenger Hellcat.
Even so, the Viper go-fast scene is alive and kicking, with the latest example of this bringing us a new quarter mile world record for the venomous contraption.
The Gen V (aficionados like to call it that, but it's actually the third generation of the Viper) beast we're discussing here managed to complete the 1,320-foot sprint in 9.36 seconds at 144 mph (that's 232 km/h for all you metric system fans). For the sake of comparison, we'll mention the FCA's crown jewel, namely the Ferrari LaFerrari, would fall 0.4 seconds behind this custom Viper.
Perhaps the best part of the story is that the impressive result was achieved without turning to overly complicated mods that would cost a fortune and threaten the reliability of the contraption.
While the 8.4-liter V10 is stock, the Dodge gained an F1X Procharger (basically a belt-driven turbo), which has been massaged a little bit, delivering 15 lbs of boost. A custom fuel system has also been added, as well as a nitrous setup. However, the nitrous hasn't been used and we expect this to be kept as a cake icing for later on.
The V10 now delivers north of 900 hp and a peak twist of 1,100 lb-ft (make that 1,490 Nm), while the six-speed manual of the production car has been replaced with a Turbo 400 automatic. Handling the monster torque wasn't the only issue of the stick tranny, with launches also being a problem at this level of muscle.
Be sure to check out the Viper's record-setting run in the clip below, with a delicious soundtrack also being part of the mix being offered here.
