Pontiac picked the perfect way to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Trans Am. Launched in 1969, the Trans Am was already the best-selling model in the Firebird series, and the changes introduced by Pontiac in 1979 propelled it to new heights.
The Tenth Anniversary model, wearing the platinum paint with two-tone charcoal, was an instant hit. The car was available with a hefty price tag, selling for $10,620 and becoming the first Firebird to surpass $10,000. However, Pontiac installed every little option on the Trans Am, so buyers always got the first package.

Trans Am Anniversary customers were not allowed to remove or add options, and their only choice concerned the engine. 5,683 customers fitted the Trans Am with the L80 403 and an automatic transmission, while 1,817 picked the W72 400 and a manual transmission.

One of these 1,817 Trans Ams is here fighting for life.

A quick look at the photos confirms the Trans Am is still solid, but the restoration process won't be easy. The car hides a few big secrets, and I wouldn't be surprised to see potential buyers interested in an all-original package walking away because of the amount of work required to fix this car.

First, you must know that the paint is no longer the original one. eBay seller mansfieldga10 says the car was repainted several years ago and now exhibits several spots requiring attention. Second, the floors have already been replaced, with the seller claiming they still look good. The original transmission is missing, and the engine will need a rebuild.

The owner says the car is otherwise complete, but it's unclear how many existing parts can still be used for restoration. However, the odometer shows an intriguing number, and considering the original engine is still under the hood (albeit in a non-working shape), it could be the real deal. The car has 43,129 miles (69,409 km) on the clock, so it could be a low-mile TATA whose restoration would turn it into a real gem.

The owner posted the car on eBay without a reserve, meaning that the Trans Am will certainly leave for a new home if a single bidder joins the fight. Unsurprisingly, the Trans Am has already caught the attention of Firebird fans, so the car received 17 bids. The top offer is $8,400 today, with approximately one day remaining until the auction ends.

If you want to see the car in person, albeit you're running out of time, considering the auction's end is around the corner, you must travel to Covington, Georgia, where it's currently parked. You'll need a trailer to take it home, given the non-working engine and its current shape. Full payment is required within seven days for the winning bidder.
