Love was in the air yesterday, not because of Saint Valentine’s but because of the cute new Renault Twingo city car. However, while we did love the way it looked the same can’t be said about Renault’s lack of tangible information.
We couldn’t accent the fact that we’d have to wait another month and so we asked around if any Renault insiders were willing to trade company secrets for a pint of beer. It seems our original assessment that two petrol engines would be available was wrong. Two engines will be available at launch. One is the TCe turbo petrol, the other is a turbodiesel.
We don’t have any information about the unit, but we think it’s one of the existing K-series engines, either the K9K 1.5-liter with 65/70 hp or the K9K HP with 90 hp or maybe. These engines have small 1,561cc blocks, common rail injection and really small turbos that spin up fast. Emissions of as low as 90 grams per kilometer are likely being targeted.
