While the the Abu Dhabi police likes to drag race its hyperpowered machines and the British Police has just welcomed an Ariel Atom, the officers in Madrid are a bit more restrained when willing to go sporty - the Spanish capital has just upgraded its vehicle fleet, with two Megane RS units leading the pack.
As you can see in the adjacent images, which come from periodismodelmotor, the hot hatches now sport the Madrid Police livery, while also being fitted with a light bar, as well as trunk-mounted police lights. While all the vehicles in the refreshed fleet come with armored doors, the large units on the Megane RS were fitted with Kevlar plates due to their size. Inside, we have all the expected police equipment, even though the cars are not ready to transport criminals.

Mind you, this is the Megane RS 265, so we’re not talking about last month’s Megane 275 Trophy, which packs features such as adjustable Öhlins Road & Track dampers and a lighter Akrpovic titanium exhaust.

While this is not exactly important, it’s still interesting that the Madrid Police didn’t choose SEAT, Spain’s only carmaker, for its fleet. In fact, the move is a rather amusing one if we place it in the overall hot hatch context - we’ll remind you that Renault and SEAT are currently in the battle for the Nurburgring FWD lap record, with the French automaker working on a Megane RS that will take the title back from the Leon Cupra.
