Mitsubishi Motors has already shown the 2012 Mirage hatch for the global market at the Tokyo Auto Show last year in December. From the minute we first saw it, we knew that ti was going to be aimed at budged buyers with economy focus, unlike the Colt (the pre-Evo look) which had a bit of style, sort of like a French supermini.
Production of the new ‘global small car’, the Mirage, has already started in Thailand ahead of its market this month. The car is made at a new factory, which is their biggest outside Japan indicating a global rollout of the model is imminent.

“I am pleased to present the Mirage first in Thailand. The Mirage is an all-new compact car focused on premium fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions just right for the times where demand for superior fuel efficiency and eco-friendliness are increasing all over the world. I would like to personally thank the Thai government for their promotion of their Eco-car Programme, allowing us the chance to bolster our Thai operations. After Thailand, the Mirage will be exported to ASEAN countries, then gradually make its way around the world,” says Osamu Masuko, President of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.

The Thai-market Mirage will be equipped with a 1.2L MIVEC engine that delivers fuel efficiency of 22km/l, equivalent to 4.54 liters/100km.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
