MG Parent Company SAIC Opens Stateside Operation
And thus, SAIC have set up shop in the US, in Birmingham, Michigan. Their main aims are purchasing, logistics, technology and engineering. The US branch of SAIC will collaborate with over 150 suppliers of parts, materials and components and will focus on exporting and importing of automotive parts, while also dealing with design, development and quality control issues. So no word on whether or not they plan to sell/make cars in the US.
Considering the fact that SAIC is the world’s 8th largest automaker with over 4 million vehicles sold, we can only speculate as to what their real motives for coming to the US are. Perhaps they are looking into relaunching the famed British brand on American soil, building on the fact that MG was a common name amongst sports car enthusiasts, until Stateside sales were halted, back in 1980.
