Chevrolet Trademarks El Camino, Holden Ute Imports Likely
According to GM Authority, General Motors has trademarked the “El Camino” name back in August. The Holden Ute is built on the same platform as the Commodore sedan that will be imported as the SS, so it’s quite likely this is the shape of the next El Camino.
Talking about what’s under the bonnet or inside the cabin of an australian Holden Ute is all fine and dandy. But we’re willing to bet that it’s actually going to come to America with a brand new small block from the same family as the LT1 that’s going into the Corvette. That means relatively modern injection systems and variable valve timing, much needed upgrades for these thirsty V8s.
The Australians have been making utes longer than the El Camino has been dead, so they probably got the formula just right by now.
