Holden's Ute Gets New Hard Tonneau Cover

It's been a while since one of Australia's favorite manufacturers, Holden, released something special for the true fans; the fans that buy, for instance, the VE Series II Ute, but have been somewhat displeased by the tonneau cover of their rides.

Since a new Ute is not actually in the making Down Under, Holden thought to refresh the range a bit by launching exactly that: a new, three-piece hard tonneau cover. One that will be made available on all the automaker's Ute models.

According to Holden, the new cover is made of a unique polished aluminum sports bar with high=-mounted stop lamp and features a remote locking system integrated into the vehicle key fob, as well as lift assistance via two gas struts.

The color of the cover, which comes in the color of the car (shown here in perhaps the coolest yellow we've seen in ages), is made of polycarbonate. However, if you get tired of it (both the cover or the color), you can remove it by simply flipping the quick release pin.

Holden intends to sell the new tonneau cover for a small fortune. Knowing that true Ute fans would have a hard time resisting it, Holden priced the aftermarket equipment to AU$3,600, fitting included.

“We think this accessory will prove to be really popular, particularly with our sports Ute buyers who take great pride in the presentation of their vehicles,” said John Elsworth, Holden's director of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales.

"The new three-piece hard tonneau has been designed specifically for the VE Ute, so it looks fantastic, provides security for cargo and as with any Genuine Holden Accessory it's been extensively tested."
