At the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015, Renault presented the Alaskan Concept, a one-tonne pickup truck confirmed for unveiling in production form in the first half of 2016. To be more precise, on June 30, 2016. Happily, however, someone managed to take a pic of the long-awaited workhorse.
Coming courtesy of automotive tipster Ferd, the featured photograph shows us the production version of the 2017 Renault Alaskan. Looks great, doesn’t it? As far as the front fascia is concerned, the headlights are a mashup between those of the Renault Kadjar and those of the Nissan X-Trail (Rogue in the United States). The chrome bits on the front grille, on the other hand, are inspired from the Dacia Duster.

The bumper is where things get a little bit more interesting. Bang in the middle there is a satin chrome finish skid plate, while the extremities are dominated by round fog lights complemented by black surrounds and C-shaped chrome trim. The mirror caps are also dressed in the chemical element with the symbol Cr.

If you look carefully to the left of the picture, you’ll spot the rearmost part of the bed of a red-painted Alaskan, flared wheel arches included. Under the skin, the one-tonne workhorse rides on the backbone of the Nissan Navara NP300 and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLT. To be offered in 2x4 and 4x4 guise, the Alaskan will be available with two variants of a twin-turbo diesel: 1.6 dCi 135 PS and 1.6 dCi 165 PS.

Anything else we know about the #RenaultALASKAN? Why, yes! When the concept was presented late last year, the French manufacturer promised us a “strong chassis for excellent road holding, high ground clearance and distinctive driving comfort, a payload of more than one tonne with five passengers onboard and a long, wide load bed" and “best-in-class fuel efficiency, plus impressive power output and acceleration performance.”
