After the highly successful Renault Megane II Sedan had ceased production, the French manufacturer followed up with the not-so-great Fluence. The thing with it is that it’s not as good as its predecessor, nor is it as big a commercial success. Furthermore, the Fluence is unimaginative and pretty run-of-the-mill, regardless of engine option and trim. Nevertheless, the 2017 Renault Megane Sedan will change all that.
As a brief refresher, the replacement for the Fluence was spied by our team of carparazzi just a few days ago. Even with all that swirly camouflage hiding its exterior design from sight, it is as clear as day that aesthetics will be the Megane Sedan’s ace of spades. Coming courtesy of the Renault aficionados at rnews, now we can have the hots for the sedan in full.
What the automotive publication from the Czech Republic uncovered here is what appears to be the owner’s manual of the soon-to-debut 2017 Renault Megane Sedan. More to the point, the car’s illustrations, dimensions, and trunk. Regarding the latter, kudos to Renault for going forward with the traditional trunk. The rumor mill was suggesting that we’re in for a liftback, but that’s not the case, as the illustrations imply.
Regarding dimensions, the Megane IV Sedan is that little bit larger than the Fluence: 4,630 mm vs. 4,618 mm in length, 2,711 mm vs. 2,702 mm in wheelbase, and 2,058 mm vs. 2,037 mm in width (including mirrors). The replacement is just that bit larger in every way compared to its precursor. There’s still no word on cargo capacity, but from the looks of it, the Megane IV Sedan easily surpasses the Fluence’s 530 liters.
It’s still not known which venue will see the Megane IV Sedan make its debut (Paris Motor Show in October or Geneva Motor Show in March), but one thing is certain: the new kid on the French automaker’s block will go on sale as a 2017 model year. As far as cabin design, equipment, and powertrains are concerned, the Megane IV hatchback and wagon will be willing to share everything with their sedan counterpart.
