The 2009 Honda Civic has received the top Euro NCAP overall safety rating following the new rating scheme introduced by the organization in February 2009. The 5-door Honda Civic tested by Euro NCAP scored 28 points in adult occupant tests, with 11.9 points for driver frontal impact and 7.7 points for side impact-car.
Speaking of pedestrian safety, the Civic gained 24 points, as it follows: 12.2 points for head protection, 6 points for pelvis safety and 6 points for leg protection. The Safety Assist test brought Civic only 6 points as the only two safety assist systems installed as standard on this particular model are the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and the Seatbelt Reminder.
"Honda have modified the safety system of the Civic for the 2008 model year car. The timing of the pretensioners has been changed to provide better restraint of the front seat passengers and dual stage frontal airbags have replaced the previous single stage units," Euro NCAP wrote in the official papers.
In terms of safety equipment, the tested Honda Civic featured front seatbelt pretensioners, front seatbelt load limiters, dual stage driver frontal airbag, dual stage front passenger frontal airbag, side body airbags and side head airbags.
Obviously, the Japanese manufacturer was pleased with the five-star rating gained by its model and, just as expected, continued to emphasize its efforts into the safety area.
"EuroNCAP’s new assessment reflects Honda’s commitment to overall vehicle safety, and follows on from the 5 star result achieved by the new Honda Accord. Honda has always been committed to making vehicles safe for passengers and pedestrians," the company said in a pure marketing-improvement statement.
