Zaragoza Rolls Out Ten Millionth Opel

Although things within the company are far from going well, with Opel fighting for survival ever since January 2009, the company finds its very unique occasions to open a new bottle of champagne and start an ad-hoc party during these difficult times. For example, the German manufacturer today announced that the Zaragoza assembly line today rolled out the 10 millionth vehicle, an Opel Corsa ecoFLEX 1.3 CDTI.

Opel Corsa ecoFLEX, often referred to as Opel's "lowest fuel-burning car", produces only 109 grams of CO2 per kilometer, with fuel consumption reaching an average of 4.1 l/100km (57.3 mpg) in mixed conditions.

Speaking of Zaragoza, this particular production facility is responsible for building the three-door, five-door, OPC and van variants of the Corsa, as well as the monocab Opel Meriva and the versatile Opel Combo. In addition, the plant also manufactures certain parts for other GM facilities in Europe, including Eisenach, Germany. Exports account for 90 per cent of its production; the main markets are UK, Italy, Germany and France, according to a release by the company.

"Since it opened in 1982, the Zaragoza plant has continuously updated its processes with leading edge technology, making it a globally competitive and productive. Initially the industrial facility was capable of building 275,000 cars per year. Continuous investments have allowed the plant to increase its capacity to 485,857 units," it said.

Until now, the Zaragoza plant has at least impressive figures, with production statistics totaling 8,436,129 Corsa, 978,200 Meriva, 128,304 Combo, 250,728 Tigra, 153,908 Kadett and 52,731 Astra cars, which means this particular factory built no less than 10,000,000 cars in Spain.
