Porsche is turning 75 this year and has already found many ways to celebrate. Usually, carmakers stick to special editions. But the sports car brand has gone all the way to making a house paint in some of the iconic colors that were once available in its portfolio.
Porsche has always tried to keep it new and exciting, not just in terms of engine outputs and road behaviour, but also when it comes to looks. The Germans know that body paint is so much of the looks of the car. That is why they always come up with shades to behold. Irish Green, Carmine Red, or Orange Lava are some of the exotic tones that are currently available. But all through the 75 years of Porsche, there have been many that remained in the hearts of the brand's fans.

That is why Porsche Cars North America teamed up with premium paint brand Backdrop to bring the legendary colors into the homes of the brand's enthusiasts for the very first time. Thus they will be able to paint their homes in Irish Green, Speed Yellow, Ruby Star, and Riviera Blue.

How is each of the four special?

Los Angeles-based Backdrop started out as a family business, founded by husband and wife duo Natalie and Caleb Ebel. In 2021, it ended up under the morel of luxury designer house F. Schumacher & Co.

The Irish Green is probably the brand's most iconic color. It was first seen in 1964 when Porsche released it for the 356C. Furthermore, the dark green also showed up as one of the first body colors on the first-generation Porsche 9111. In 2017, the one millionth 911 was painted in Irish Green.

The Speed Yellow first appeared on the Porsche 911. It was 1991, and the paint was for those who wanted to turn heads. Now it is also for those who want to bright up a room.

The Ruby Star also dates back to 1991 and it seems to be anything but red. Cars that wore the vibrant deep magenta over the years were the 911, 928, and 944. But the tone was inspired by the Porsche 953 Paris-Dakar rally car.

The Riviera Blue was developed in 1994 for models such as the 911, 928, and 928. It is an electric blue for those who want to stand out, and it can surely light up a room.

The paint collection will be available exclusively on Backdrop's website from July through the end of the year for $75 for a gallon.

When they spec a car, the Porsche customers can currently choose one of the 180 shades available through the Paint to Sample program. They can also specify a bespoke color from a much wider pallet.
