AAWireless pioneered the wireless Android Auto adapter category, rapidly becoming the leader in a market that now includes many more alternatives, including a device from the more famous Motorola.
Despite the growing wireless Android Auto adapter space, AAWireless remains the world's number one device, offering a great mix of design, functionality, stability, and reliability.

AAWireless is now ready for the second generation.

Announced at CES, AAWireless 2 will debut later this year with two big improvements. The first one is the CarPlay support, meaning that AAWireless will also be able to convert wired CarPlay into a wireless connection.

The feature will work similarly to Android Auto, so users will have to pair their iPhones with AAWireless 2 via Bluetooth, plug the device into the USB port of their car, and let the magic begin. CarPlay support is already available in beta for certain AAWireless models, but the second generation will come with this feature out of the box for all devices.

AAWireless 2 will also come with a new design that looks more modern. The device went on a diet and features a slim design (though it also looks bulky from certain angles, but it'll measure 32x54 mm), so it'll become less intrusive in the cabin. Wireless Android Auto adapters can remain connected to the vehicle for a more straightforward experience when you get behind the wheel and start the engine, so a subtle form factor with a slim design can allow a driver to even forget it's there.

The design also includes a physical button, and its purpose is simple. AAWireless will allow drivers to switch between devices with a press of a button. If you pair multiple phones with the adapter, you can switch between them using the new button, so you don't have to manually disconnect a smartphone from the Android interface (by turning off Bluetooth). There's also an LED light, which I guess will use various colors to indicate when the adapter is ready to use.

AAWireless 2 is due later this year, but the announcement still leaves two big questions without an answer. We don't know when the device will hit the shelves and how much it's going to cost. AAWireless debuted with a $89.99 price tag and eventually dropped to $69.99, with discounts bringing it below the $60 threshold occasionally.

The second-generation model could be priced below or at $99, though it's unclear if the company will continue to sell the first-generation iteration alongside the improved version. My guess is that the first adapter will be retired, as AAWireless 2 is better in every regard, so keeping an older model around wouldn't make sense unless it gets significantly cheaper. However, the company promises to continue shipping further software refinements to the first generation even once the improved model hits the shelves in 2024.
