Wireless Android Auto adapters have been around for a while, and while new models help expand this product category, Motorola's MA1 and AAWireless continue to be the best choices.
They don't always provide the best experience (for example, I see several reports of fried MA1 adapters), but at the end of the day, they're still the top choice for someone who wants to run Android Auto wirelessly in their cars.

Generic Chinese brands typically sell alternative devices at half the price of a premium adapter, but the reliability is significantly downgraded, down to the point where the adapter fails to connect in the car.

However, thanks to significant price cuts, AAWireless and Motorola's MA1 are now more affordable on Amazon (yes, AAWireless is once again available on Amazon, as the parent company has managed to resolve a fake copyright infringement claim that led to the device getting delisted temporarily).

AAWireless is now available on Amazon with its typical 30% discount, costing $55.99. the device is in stock and could arrive before Christmas, making for a great gift for someone struggling with a wired Android Auto connection in their car.

Motorola's MA1 is only a few dollars more expensive, as the 29% discount brought the price down to $63.49 from $89.99. Motorola has been offering several major price cuts lately, so chances are that it plans to lower the price permanently, especially as the competition in this space is getting fiercer. The MA1 should also arrive before Christmas if you order it today.

Both AAWireless and Motorola MA1 use a similar approach to turn a wired Android Auto connection into a wireless. Drivers must plug the device into the vehicle's Android Auto port and connect it via Bluetooth to the smartphone. When the connection is detected, Android Auto loads on the head unit.

Drivers can leave the adapter connected to the vehicle's USB port, so when they start the engine, Android Auto starts automatically with no input required on the user's side. The process can take anywhere from a few seconds to 30 seconds.

Compared to Motorola's MA1, AAWireless supports CarPlay following the most recent software updates. It means the adapter can also convert a wired CarPlay connection into a no-cord experience using a similar approach. Similar devices have also been around for several years, including CarLinkit, but AAWireless shoots two birds with one stone, offering compatibility for Android Auto and CarPlay. However, CarPlay support is only available on certain models.

Both devices come with USB cables to connect the adapters to the vehicle's Android Auto port, so you can start using them out of the box. Your smartphone must be running at least Android 11 to support a wireless connection for running Android Auto.
