Founded in 1928 and specialized in minivans since 1983, Windsor Assembly is the largest employer of the southernmost city in Canada. Located south of Detroit Motor City, the Detroit River acts a natural boundary between the two iconic automaking cities.
With a footprint that measures a sizable 4.4 million square feet (408,000 square meters) and a 4,647-strong workforce, the Canadian facility is currently making popular people carriers as the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country, as well as the Ram Cargo Van and the Lancia Grand Voyager.

Its long and illustrious history is all jolly and such, but the Fiat-Chrysler Group knows it has to level it up in order to prepare for “production of [a] future model.” On December 26th, a 600-ton crane started installing pieces of structural metal to create a new conveyor enclosure on the Windsor facility’s roof.

The Fiat-Chrylser Group FCA US LLC highlights in an official statement that “the conveyor enclosure and skillet line are among many improvements planned for the Windsor plant in preparation for production of a future model. Additional projects will be completed during 14 weeks of downtime beginning in February.”

If you were wondering what that future model is, yup, it’s the upcoming 2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Why 2016 model year? Rewind back to January this year, more specifically at the Detroit Auto Show. A certain Sergio Marchionne disclosed then that the all-new Chrysler Town & Country will hit dealers in the next “24 to 30 months,” which translates to a late 2015 public debut for the lavish people carrier.
