American car company FCA is currently engaged in harsh negotiations for a tie-up with French group PSA, but is moving forward with its expansion plans in the U.S. As part of an earlier deal with the city of Detroit, it is now getting one step closer to start building a new facility on the banks of the Detroit River.
On Friday, December 13, a loud bang shook the east Windsor area of the city, as explosives brought down a decommissioned DTE Electric power plant, known in the area as Conners Creek. You can watch how it all went down from more than one angle in the video attached below.

The facility was imploded, and no incidents or road closures were reported as a result. The place of this facility will be taken by a Jeep facility as a result of a land-swap deal signed between the city of Detroit and FCA.

"Conners Creek Power Plant played an important role in the growth of Detroit and is an integral part of DTE's history," said according to Euronews Trevor Lauer, president of DTE Electric.

It’s unclear yet when work on the new facility will begin, but probably it won’t take the company too much time to give the green light.

FCA is now fighting with all its might to stay afloat. On the one hand, it is looking for a helping hand from companies abroad to revitalize both its product portfolio and its finances. The latest push is for a tie-up with PSA which would see FCA become part of a global behemoth with never-before dreamed reach.

On the other, FCA just got slammed by GM with a racketeering lawsuit, and the Detroit rival is talking about asking billions in damages. Should GM succeed, this could spell the end of the Italian-American company as we know it.
