VW Golf GTI Edition 35 Could Be Coming to US Shores

We’ve been bringing you so many reports on Golf GTI related events that you’d think it’s the darn car’s birthday or something. Oh wait.... nevermind! Just one more and we think we’re done for today.

This last one (we hope) only concerns those GTI fans that reside in America, as Das Auto is reportedly bringing the Edition 35 Stateside, because what celebratory part would be complete without hotdogs and Bud Light!

In a strange turn of events, Car and Driver Reports that the 35 Edition GTI will actually be know as the 30 Edition, as the model is celebrating that many years of existence in the new world, plus it has a nice well-rounded sound to it. That means the 35 badging on the door sills, seats and fenders will need to go, but we don’t expect that will be an obstacle.

That means American buyers will get a chance to taste the 235 horsepower engine that VW says is a detuned version of the one in the ‘R’ and has 25 more hp than the regular hothatch. Scratch that, it has 35 more, as the US version Mk 6 GTI has 200 ponies under the bonnet.

As you might already know, the special edition also differentiates itself from the standard version through a set of visual upgrades, including revised front and rear bumpers, smoky light lenses, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, glossy black plastic grille and side mirror trim and new alloy wheels.

Inside, the ‘35’ pattern is also on the door sills, the head rests and the center of the seats. Speaking of the seats, these sport a fabric upholstery that has a honeycomb-like pattern instead of the standard model's tartan theme.
