Volkswagen Bringing Three New Golfs to Worthersee

Ever since Volkswagen brought back the true spirit of the GTI with the introduction of the fifth generation, the German hot hatch has been gathering more and more fans, almost starting a revolution.

Now the GTI is in its sixth generation and enthusiasts lust for it so much that girlfriends and wives from all over the world are jealous. Well, VW is preparing to offer an explosion of automotive mistresses at the 2011 Worthersee show, which will see the German automotive producer introduce three new version of the compact go-fast legend.

Alongside the GTI Edition 35, which we previously presented, Das Auto will bring two interesting GTI motorsport proposals to the event.

The first is based on the original 1977 GTI MK1, which has been fitted with a 1.6-liter engine that delivers 215 hp. The unit works with a a five-speed racing gearbox that was provided by VW’s racing division.

The handling of the car is closely guarded by a Bilstein suspension, which should take good care of the car on the Nurburging - it has been designed as a Group 4 challenger at the 24-Hour Nurburgring race.

The other racer is the company’s Golf24 endurance racer, which will certainly please the crowd.

Before we end the show, we’ll remind you that the Edition 35 is powered by a reworked 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 235 hp, allowing the driver to understand what the hot hatch segment, which was invented by the GTI Mk1, is all about.
