The only way that VW could have been more flower-power than they were in the first promo video for the new Jetta Hybrid is if they used blue unicorns and rainbows. Seriously, we’re glad they made a turbo-hybrid, but the way the stranded pickup driver smiles in this video... you’d think the car came with standard massage seats.
We’re still waiting on official pricing for the Jetta Hybrid, but we can tell you that it uses a hybrid drivetrain that combines a turbocharged 1.4-liter TSI with 150 horsepower and a 20 kw electric motor. The total output is 170 hp and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. The power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
VW says their hybrid is 20 percent more efficient than a similarly powered gasoline car, being capable of doing 45 mpg on the US cycle. What’s more, the car isn’t exactly slow, posting a 0 to 60 mph time of less than 9 seconds.
