Visteon to Expand Brazilian Tech Center

Now on a rebound following the financial difficulties of 2009, automotive supplier Visteon is looking to increase the range of products it offers by expanding the Tech Center it operates at the company's Arbor manufacturing facility in Guarulhos, Brazil.

The center has now been put in charge with the thermal testing of internal and external components for vehicles, in a thermal chamber that can simulate extreme climate and environmental conditions. The addition of this capability to the center is hoped to have an impact on the currently high cost and time of performing these tests outside of Brazil.

To handle the new task, the test center has been equipped with six new solar panels that have been developed by Visteon itself. The supplier plans to use this added feature to test products like vehicle climate systems as well.

"The Tech Center adds value to our business by helping us offer complete solutions to the automotive industry through the knowledge and experience we gain through these broad testing services," said Andreas Jancso, director of Visteon's climate group for South America.

One of the biggest automotive suppliers, Visteon was not spared in 2009 by the economic decline which nearly sunk the industry. Unlike most of its competitors in the same situation, Visteon took a much longer time to get back on its feet.

The company declared it has exited Chapter 11 protection in October 2010, well over a year after it filed for bankruptcy. As it emerged, Visteon committed to four product lines, climate, electronics, interiors and lighting.
