Toyota Awards Visteon for Fuel Pump Controller

Presented by one of the biggest suppliers in the industry, Visteon, as a possible game changing part, the low-cost fuel pump controller (FPC) developed in collaboration with Toyota has landed Visteon the Technology & Development Award at the car maker's 2011 Suppliers Convention.

According to Visteon, the FPC, which is patent pending, controls the speed of the fuel pump according to the driving situation to improve the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. The thing that sets this hardware apart from similar systems is the fact that Visteon's FPC uses a proprietary printed wire board topology with a high-frequency direct current.

This in turn allows for the reduction in the radiated electromagnetic noise. At the same time, this FPC – already deployed by Toyota on several models currently on sale in the US and Japan – comes with several other advantages: it is lighter than similar parts, smaller and it has a less complex design.

Visteon hopes to strike gold with this new hardware, which it says has been built in such a way that can be used in all types of motor control systems, including in electric/hybrid vehicles.

As for the Technology & Development Award, Toyota only gives this prize to the suppliers which come up with technologies that “ boost the product appeal of Toyota vehicles.”

“We are extremely pleased to be recognized by Toyota as a top innovator and technology leader," said Donald J. Stebbins, Visteon chairman, chief executive officer and president. "We continue to focus on partnering with our customers to create exceptional value."
