VEA Monte-Carlo Rally Enters Fourth Year

The fourth edition of the Monte Carlo Rally for Alternative Energy Vehicles (VEA), the opening round of the FIA International Cup, will kick off on March 25, with the scrutineering at Lugano phase and will end on March 28, at the Spelugues Super Special.

The event is meant for vehicles who prove to have the "most respect the environment." Last year, the event was won by Ecurie Ford France, who will defend the title in 2010 by fielding two Ford Focus ECOnetics and one Fiesta ECOnetic models.

The cars will be driven by last year's winners, Pascal and Stephanie Aime, accompanied by Alain Jongerlynck.

“Ford has a very long history with the Monte Carlo Rally”, Jean-Luc Gerard, Ford France Managing Director said.

“The Focus WRC and most recently the Fiesta S2000 have starred. What is interesting about the VEA event is the idea of competing with production based cars that our customers can drive every day.”

“The average speed must remain constant from the start until the finish line. It is a difficult driving exercise. You can not cheat on the qualities of the car”, Alain Jongerlynck, driver and team leader in the Drive Classic team added. “If fuel economy is to be exemplary, so also must the handling of the car.”

The legs of the rally are as follows:

  • Thursday March 25: scrutineering at Lugano (Switzerland), Clermont- Ferrand (France), and Annecy-le-Vieux (France)
  • Friday March 26: Start of the Concentration leg from Lugano (Switzerland), Clermont-Ferrand (France), and Annecy-le-Vieux (France).
  • Saturday March 27: start of the Valence-Monaco Common leg consisting of two regularity challenges: Bourdeaux – Sahune and St Andre de Rosans – Eyguians.
  • Sunday March 28: Spelugues Super Special from 10h00. Closing lunch and awards at 12h00.
