A link between the major airline and a brand-new manufacturing facility in Brazil seems unlikely, but the explanation behind it is simple – we're talking about a recent collaboration between United and Eve Air Mobility, the AAM (Advanced Air Mobility) subsidiary of Brazilian aviation giant Embraer.
United has selected more than one eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) manufacturer to supply electric aircraft for its future air taxi commute operations. The most famous one is the California-based Archer, set to kick off production of the Midnight eVTOL in collaboration with Stellantis.
Another eVTOL maker that convinced the air operator to commit to a large order is the Brazil-based Eve Air Mobility. Much less prestigious than Archer and other American or European AAM players, Eve's secret weapon is the connection with one of the most reputable aircraft manufacturers in the world, Embraer. It was enough to determine United to pre-order 200 units of the Eve eVTOL, with the possibility of adding 200 more.
Thanks to this hefty order, Eve claimed to reach the highest position worldwide in terms of orders. Its order backlog is nearing 3,000 units, surpassing powerful contenders like Vertical Aerospace and Joby.
While other manufacturers were bragging about the unique qualities and unprecedented performance of their future eVTOLs, Eve was quietly working behind the scene. Without disclosing too much regarding technical specs, it scored major achievements, such as the collaboration with United and an impressive order backlog. The most recent milestone is securing the location for its future manufacturing facility.
This is big because Eve's eVTOL factory will also be the first of its kind in Brazil. The AAM startup chose this location in the city of Taubate, Sao Paolo, due to the strategic proximity to highways and a railroad - which is important for ensuring a smooth supply flow.
The company hasn't shared more details about the estimated production capacity or launch date. Still, a certain detail indicates this would be a state-of-the-art facility: Eve partnered with none other than Porsche Consulting. The two started working together in 2022 on a large-scale, long-term innovative manufacturing and logistics strategy.
In the meantime, the Brazilian manufacturer continues to refine its eVTOL concept, which will also be integrated into a wider, complex AAM plan, including specific tools such as dedicated Urban Air Traffic Management (Urban ATM) software.

Like most similar concepts, the Eve eVTOL is also meant to operate without a pilot in the cockpit eventually, which will increase its capacity to six passengers.
