The other car manufacturer in Stuttgart is bound to get a similar amount of heat (pun intended) if the engine fire sustained by the S 350 BlueTec in the adjacent photo gallery starts multiplying into other similar cases.
The two-weeks old Mercedes-Benz S-Class was being driven by an elderly couple in Southern Germany, when a rather serious fire spontaneously started under the hood. Thankfully, the driver managed to pull over in time and, apart from the car, no one was seriously hurt.
The local fire department responded with no less than 18 firemen and three firetrucks, managing to put out the blaze but not before the flames and smoke managing to total the vehicle.
According to Merkur Online, the cause of the fire is under investigation by both police officers and engineers from Mercedes-Benz, so hopefully we will know more about what started the blaze in the upcoming days or weeks, especially since as far as we know this is the first incident of this kind for an all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class of the W222 variety.
