If any of you remember the AC refrigerant battles between Daimler AG and the French government from last year you probably know that they were essentially won by the German car manufacturer when a ruling of the highest administrative court in France allowed them to continue selling the A-Class, B-Class, CLA and the SL Roadster in the Hexagon.
About six months later, the fight is actually far from being over, as the European Commission has apparently just launched legal proceedings against... Germany, and all because Daimler AG is still refusing to remove the old AC coolant from the aforementioned vehicles until they develop a safer one on their own.
As some of you know, Mercedes-Benz decided against using a new air conditioning refrigerant made by Honeywell and DuPont in some of its cars after determining that it may pose a fire hazard in the unfortunate event of a car crash.
Apart from Germany, the European Commission is also threatening the United Kingdom, Belgium and Luxembourg with legal proceedings, as apparently these three countries as suspected of circumventing the new AC refrigerant rules by registering new vehicles using older technical standards which don't include the imposed Honeywell/DuPont refrigerant.
