Remember when the world was thrilled about Jeep shoehorning a naturally aspirated 6.4-liter HEMI into the Grand Cherokee SRT? Those days are long gone (the machine is still awesome, though), as the carmaker now offers the GC Trackhawk, animated by a Hellcat V8.
Thanks to the blown 6.2-liter HEMI, the uber-Jeep allows the driver to play with 707 ponies. However, there are still aficionados out there who look at the thing and see an underpowered toy.
And this is where the aftermarket realm comes into play. With the Hellcat motor having been around since 2015, tuners have had plenty of time to play with the engine and things have already gone pretty far for the Trackhawk.
For today, we've brought along the fastest stock motor Grand Cherokee Trackhawk out there. While the block has remained in factory condition, we're not aware of the exact mods fitted to the engine (more on this below).
The velocity behemoth recently visited the drag strip and managed to play the quarter-mile game in 9.58s, with a trap speed of 141 mph - the latter brought home the said accolade, while an even spicier Elapsed Time would've turned this into the quickest Trackhawk.
For the sake of comparison, we'll mention that the stock incarnation of the SUV needs 11.6 seconds to play the 1/4-mile game. So the numbers of the example we have here mean this should pack north of 1,200 ponies.
Of course, the battle for sharper drag strip stats doesn't stop here, even though the way to the 8s arena is anything but short, especially given the weight and size of the machine. We constantly keep an eye out for adventures of the sort and we'll bring these to you as soon as we get our hands on them. Meanwhile, you can check out the said stunt in the piece of footage below.
